I moved the pot to a shadier spot in my yard and applied copious water this morning, and went home at lunch and gave it another soaking. A plant like this that makes tons of roots hates being in a pot made for Hawaii or FL. The pool fence isn’t nearly high enough for any shade for the entire plant, and it looks like the leaves are getting full sun most of the day, probably with low humidity.

I bought a 7 gallon from Premier Growers about 8 months ago and it’s already outgrowing the 25 gallon pot I moved it into. Here is the palm, looks very healthy aside from the obvious cold spots on the old fronds. Are they the first two foxy ladies cultivated??? Sign up for a new account in our community. Number 1 on my personal list of favorite feather-leaved / crown shafted palms so i completely understand the allure / desire to grow one ( …or a few, lol ).. They will feel heavier than the empty seeds as well.
Foxy Lady in Trouble!
- If there are variegated foxladies, they are obvious.
- Obviously the dark spots on the trunk remain as photographed above .
- I had about 7 seeds so I just planted them all, one popped.
- I do need to get better on checking my palm talk tho!

Most likely a resold Rancho Soledad plant or a Florida import from Sparkman. But if there is actually “zero” movement, your palm is probably already dead. Even in the slowest sickliest palm, you should notice some movement of the spear – even 1/8 of an inch in a week assures that your palm is still alive. If you meant the spear has not moved at all, then your palm was in trouble from day one. You said, “I marked the spear the day it was delivered, and there has been zero growth.”

I have got palms from Flouibunda and jungle music and never had the problem I had with this palm of you are going to ship palms at least learn how to pack them!!! I never said the palm looked bad I said it was basically bare root and variegated which I specifically said I didn’t want!!! He is the only one to have a problem with their foxy lady order, and started to complain even before it was delivered. 1 of each 3 and 7 is slightly variegated with 2 of each being greens. Good quality plant and amazing growth.
The collection has a few standard green Foxies, and a Variegated specimen whose crown receives full sun. FULL DISCLOSURE…these are not photos of my palms, nor did I take these photos. What’s the difference between the variegated and the green ? There’s been a couple times where large all green forms have been available, but it hasn’t been too often. Can anyone tell me where I can buy a small foxy lady or gear me in the right deduction thank you
Look how elongated this viable F2 seed is, that I picked up yesterday. Maybe a few other palmtalkers that I sold F2 to can pipe in. The F2 I am growing so foxy gold far is hard to tell if they will have the vigor yet, but so far, so good. The over variegated ones seem to languish and slowly die or just grow very slow, probably due to lack of chlorophyll. Are they the same as an F1 growth rate?
When looking at seeds on the Kopsick specimen(s), they will have a look that falls somewhere between those off Veitchia, and those off Foxtails. As far as I know it is possible for these two to hybridize. Good stuff when ever someone finds a full green or the lucky charm let me know would like a small one it’s almost like finding Waldo
Leaning Foxy Lady palm
In all the years i have observed it, fronds on the variegated spec. I’d suggest spending sometime at Kopsick Palmatium in St. Pete. So why does it seem the green is the better choice ? Time will tell with my original plant… I’m encouraged to see some growth of the spear, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
@96720 Taking a look at your foxy lady in the pic. I have an f2 foxy lady I might be interested in letting go if you are interested I can come pick up that palm at your convenience,deliver you $200 cash, plus the 3 Pseudophoenix seedlings in the pic if you would be interested in selling.
I am good with the outcome either way, but if you really want to rid yourself of that ‘ugly’ plant,I am ready to adopt. I would LOVE to own that ‘ugly’ palm. I have 3-7g (one slight variegation) I have 3-3g (one slight variegation) I do need to get better on checking my palm talk tho!

From the pic seems like your palm flew across the country unharmed. Actually,light variegation is not a bad thing. Premier has sargentii seedlings and 7gal vinifera but they don’t know how to ship. I am lousy at keeping seedlings alive let alone sargentii seedlings!
Erik, the Foxtails were planted many months before the F1 Foxyladies. If so did they sprout around the same time frame? If there are variegated foxladies, they are obvious. What I have noticed is that the width of the foxylady leaves tend to be a little wider and a little more dark hairs on the leaf bases.
